Metro High School in Cedar Rapids has named a new principal.

Dr. Carlos Grant will join the Cedar Rapids Community School District starting July 1. He is currently the principal at the York Preparatory Academy, a public charter school in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Grant previously worked as an assistant principal at Alexander Graham Middle School and Myers Park High School in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District in North Carolina.

Grant received his bachelor's degree from South Carolina State University, a master's degree from Winthrop University and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

“Dr. Grant is a results-driven leader with extensive experience with the Professional Learning Community model, curriculum development, and the ability to build capacity in the educational arena,” said Mary Ellen Maske, Deputy Superintendent.

“I am honored to be named as Principal of Metro High School,” said Grant. “Born and raised in South Carolina, the thought of living in Cedar Rapids is exciting as it is a vibrant urban hometown with all the essential aspects of business and people development at its core.

"My goals as principal revolve around maintaining high student achievement both socially and academically," he continued. "The collaboration between community, local businesses, and Metro will be key to this vision. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure we build the village to support our children."
