Hayden Shaw: Athlete of the Week

Black Hawks defenseman Hayden Shaw is a pretty nice guy

"What makes Hayden special is what a great young man he is. "

"Always smiling, laughing, keeping things loose"

Turns out, however, he's also a pretty good hockey player -- with goals this season -- the high school junior is the 3rd leading scorer on the Black Hawks defensive line --

His offensive skills you can't teach, and he's scored some timely big time goals for us.

He's been incredible for as young as he's been. He's one of the best young guys in the league in his role.

Hayden's skills shouldn't come as much of a surprise to any one -- he is the son of a hockey -- but not just any coach --

Matt Shaw happens to be the first year head coach of Waterloo's chief rival -- the Dubuque Fighting Saints

'It's a great story. His dad, when he got the job in Dubuque, called and said I want my son to stay in Waterloo with you guys. I thought that was unique."

"It's strange seeing him on the other bench. The last time we played he gave me a head nod during warm-ups. It was kind of weird seeing him on the bench with a different jersey on the guys in front of him."

Black Hawks head man P-K O'Handley says having a coach's son on the ice -- is a nice advantage --

'They get it. They get the bad days, they get the good days, and they don't get derailed."

And Hayden certainly hasn't gotten derailed from the biggest goal. .Last month he and his teammates hoisted the Anderson Cup high as the regular season champs -- Now they've got their sights set on the Clark --

It's been unbelievable. From the start we always had it in the back of our minds, but now you see it's possible, something that we can go for.
