City officials: East Dubuque 'ready' for flooding season

Posted: Updated:

Residents of East Dubuque are seeing some parts of East Dubuque flooded, due to the high Mississippi River levels. City officials tell KWWL they have placed pumps near the Mississippi River to help keep help control flooding. They say the city's levee is also keeping a majority of the rivers high water at bay.

Although East Dubuque is located right next to the Mississippi River, city officials tell KWWL the river isn't their biggest concern going into severe weather season. They say they are concerned for fast, steady rainfalls that may cause major flooding due to the cities geography.

"We have a lot of drains that come through our town and we are ready for it. It's just if it's going to happen and when, but we'll be ready for that challenge," Geoff Barklow, East Dubuque City Manager said.
