DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque announced Thursday its final results of Great Give Day, eastern Iowa's first-ever 24-hour online fundraising effort.

From midnight until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Great Give Day received 1,855 gifts totaling $205,630 for the area's 53 participating non-profit organizations. The total includes $27,500 in local corporate sponsorships, plus an additional $10,000 power hour match grant from Give Local America, the national giving day partnership.

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque said in a release Thursday Great Give Day benefited the local non-profit organizations in more ways than money.

"Many nonprofits learned how to use social media, created their first e-mail campaigns and raised dollars online for the first time," the release said. "Many donors also gave online for the first time--and more than 500 donors indicated they were new donors to an organization. Great Give Day also received 423 donations from 37 states outside of Iowa."

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque was one of 160 Community Foundations nationwide that held a giving day Tuesday. Dubuque's was the only Community Foundation in Iowa participating this year.

"The Foundation is still awaiting national data to give our day some context but it is clear that Northeast Iowa is a very generous region," the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque stated in its release. "The Miami Foundation's first give day in 2012, for example, raised $1.2 million, or about $.46 per capita; by comparison, Great Give Day raised about $1.14 per capita."
