Attorney: New Hampton teen raped in high school locker room

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) - According to attorney Jason Abraham from Hupy and Abraham, a 17-year-old high school student at New Hampton High School was sodomized and raped by a peer in the boys' locker room.

Abraham, a personal injury lawyer, said he was hired to make sure the girl was protected because he said her family is concerned authorities and school officials are sweeping the March 24 incident under the rug.

KWWL first broke the story on Tuesday after New Hampton Police Chief Mike Anderson confirmed his department was investigating a report of a sexual assault at the high school.

Anderson said it happened at around 2:30 p.m. in the boys' locker room.

He said a rape kit was completed and sent to investigators in Ankeny, but that not much can be done until the results of the rape kit come back.

Now the family's attorney is speaking out.

"I'm happy to see headway is being made in this case," Abraham told KWWL. "We've never tried to say police weren't taking it seriously, but we're having trouble understanding why the family has received such little information since March 24."

Abraham said his firm will do everything in its power to make sure the high school victim receives justice.
