Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The City of Cedar Rapids is preparing to rededicate Bret Sunner Memorial Park on Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m.

The city will also dedicate the Police Officers and Firefighters Monument at the same time.

The park was first dedicated in 2000 but was damaged during the 2008 flood.

Sunner was a Cedar Rapids police officer who was shot and killed while responding to a call in 1984.

The Police Officers and Firefighters Monument will honor the city's 13 peace officers and firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

The dedication ceremony will take place at 8th Ave. and Valor Way SW. The park is located between the police station and the Cedar River.
