Trent Tompkins returns to Kick Boxing

Posted: Updated:
In August of 2003, Trent Tompkins was at the top of his game. In front of A packed house at the 5 Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo---Tompkins landed two devastating kicks to knockout Rob McDonald of Canada in the first round and claim the IKF Amateur Super Heavyweight World Championship. And then afterward--the 21 year-old man known as Thunderfoot--told me he was done.

It's been more than a decade since Tompkins last fought--in that time Trent got his college degree, got married and had two children. He also gained a lot of weight.
Trent got back in the gym with his longtime coach Russ O'Connell... and not only did he shed the weight quickly--but he also re-discovered the form that made him the best in the World.
Tompkins said, "I'm smarter..a little more wiser. I don't waste energy on kicks. Now when I kick I make them count."
The most gratifying part of Trent Tompkins' comeback is that he is able to share it with his family. Neither of his sons were alive when he fought--and were very skeptical of their dad's stories of his past life.
"They didn't believe anything I had to say --I was really out of shape and they hadn't seen anything. I'm not doing this to prove anything except to myself and my kids that if you put your mind to something you can do it don't ever quit and settle for anything but the best. Saturday night after I win I'll let you know I'll be happy--- I'll be happy."
Trent Tompkins is the featured fighter on a 12 Fight card Saturday night May 10th at the Five Sullivan Brothers' Convention Center in Waterloo.
