Iowa City woman gets 10 years for stealing $141K from law firm

IOWA CITY (AP) -

A 37-year-old Iowa City woman has been given 10 years in prison for stealing more than $141,000 from the Iowa City law office that employed her.

Court records say Kimberly Kurka was sentenced on Monday. She'd pleaded guilty to theft. Prosecutors dropped other charges in exchange for her plea.

Police say Kurka misappropriated money starting in 2008 and continuing through 2010 at the Foster Law Office, which specializes in criminal defense, personal injury law and various other types of litigation.

Investigators say the thievery included fraudulent checks and money transfers, unauthorized paychecks and credit card purchases

Online court records say she's also known as Kimberly Kutcher.
