Eastern Iowa Boxers to compete in National Giolden Gloves

Posted: Updated:
Some Eastern Iowa Amateur boxers are getting in their final workouts before leaving for Las Vegas and the National Golden Gloves Boxing tournament.

Kevin Cruz and Ricky Rubio of the East Side Boxing Club in Waterloo have been training hard for a shot at one of the most prestigious awards in amateur boxing.

The 19 year-old Rubio will be competing in the 123 pound class in his second Golden Gloves tournament--last year rubio fought in the heavier 132 pound weight division--losing to the eventual champion.

This will be the fifth golden gloves competition for 23 year-old Kevin Cruz-- who plans on turning professional after this tournament--win or lose. Cruz says boxing saved his life-- now he's ready to become a champion.
