HILLS (KWWL) -

A Hills man is facing charges after Iowa City police say that he hit a pregnant woman with his car and then drove away.
Police arrested 56-year-old Ronnie West on Monday for serious misdemeanor charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident.

The criminal complaint says on Thursday, a woman, who is about five-months pregnant, was getting off of a city transit bus and started crossing Melrose Avenue when she was hit by an SUV.

Witnesses called in the license plate number for the car and contacted police; West admitted to police that he hit the woman and knew that he should've stopped, but didn't.

The woman who was hit suffered leg injuries and possible internal injuries.
