Shane Moreland, Peabody winner, named new KWWL news director
WATERLOO (KWWL) -
KWWL is pleased to announce that Shane Moreland has been named News Director.
Moreland brings to KWWL numerous awards and over 20 years of experience. He is the recipient of several regional and national Edward R. Murrow awards, as well as a Peabody Award for the 2007 coverage of the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech.
“I'm really looking forward to joining KWWL,” said Moreland. “They are a powerhouse TV station that is known across the country for their service to the community, top-notch weather coverage and solid journalism.”
Moreland begins at KWWL on May 26.
Dan Schillinger, KWWL’s current News Director, is taking the News Director position at WQOW, another QNI property.
“Shane’s track record of success leading local television news operations made him the right choice for KWWL,” said Jim McKernan. “He is strategic and understands multi-platform news gathering in today’s competitive environment.”
Moreland has worked in a number of stations across the country. Most recently he served as Vice-President and General Manager of WVNS and Vice-President of News Operations for West Virginia Media Holdings. Moreland also served as News Director of WCTI/WFXI of New Bern, North Carolina and News Director at WSLS in Roanoke, Virginia, a position he held for nine years.
He said he looks forward to becoming part of eastern Iowa.
“My family and I are excited about the move to eastern Iowa and being part of the community," he said. "We love the outdoors and small-town life. Iowa is a perfect fit for our values and lifestyle.”
Moreland and his wife, Lucia, have 11 children and one grandchild. In his free time, he enjoys flying hang gliders, something he is very passionate about.
