Dubuque man reconnects with biological siblings from Germany

Posted: Updated:

Siblings scattered over two continents have joined in Dubuque after decades apart.

The Telegraph Herald reports Richard Asbell, of Dubuque, welcomed three brothers from Landshut, Germany, and a sister from Kansas City on Sunday.

The siblings were among nine children born to the Reinhardt family. Two were sent to the United States with adoptive parents more than 50 years ago because their parents couldn't afford such a large family.

Asbell knew he was adopted, but first learned the specifics upon receiving an email in 2012 from a sister in Europe.

Although the siblings in Germany had known about Asbell for a couple years, it was only recently that they found their sister, Donna Burton, in Kansas City.

Asbell says spending time with his siblings "fills my heart."
