Camp Courageous take on the Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium

IOWA CITY (AP) -

For the 9th year, campers with Camp Courageous had the opportunity of a lifetime to hang out with some of their football-playing heroes.

The University of Iowa football team hosted the campers at Kinnick Stadium.

“These kids they watch us on TV, they come to our games, and they look up to us,” said UI wide receiver Kevonte Martin-Manley.

More than 100 campers from Camp Courageous, serving individuals with disabilities, gave senior football players a run for their money on the field.

It’s all part of the annual spring picnic where players spend time with campers.

Campers had lunch in the press box, an autograph session, toured the football facilities and showed the players how to really get down.

Brett Zuck has been coming to the annual picnic for the last 5 years.

“Go Hawkeyes,” said Brett.

Doctors are still trying to get the exact diagnosis for Brett, but it’s his life that Brett’s mother hopes touches the lives of others.

“With Brett’s disability it’s important that he touches other lives and so when he meets the football team," said Annette Zuck.

Every player and every camper establish a bond that lasts a lifetime.

“They do their job everyday, but they don’t really know that they are somebody’s hero and people really look up to them and I think it’s very humbling for them as well,” said event director Stacey Thompson,

The annual event was spearheaded by long-time Camp Courageous supporter and Hawkeye football supporter, the late Bill Krause.
