DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) -

A Dubuque man is walking across the state of Iowa to raise awareness for the need for foster families in the state of Iowa. Chris Barnett left Dubuque County Saturday morning. He works for Iowa KidsNet, an organization which recruits, trains, licenses, and supports families to foster and adopt Iowa children.

Barnett hopes his walk will inspire others to consider becoming a foster family. It's a cause he said that is close to his heart.

"I was a foster child myself for 4 years and I see the benefit of foster care," Barnett said Saturday.

Barnett's final stop will be in Council Bluffs. He will then walk back to Dubuque. He hopes to be in Dubuque by the end of May.
