Reminder: Swimming in Cedar River in Cedar Rapids is illegal

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The City of Cedar Rapids is reminding everyone that swimming in the Cedar River within the city limits of Cedar Rapids is illegal.

Greg Buelow, Public Safety Communications Coordinator, says they have received several reports of people jumping into or swimming in the Cedar River lately.

Buelow says swimming in the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids is currently prohibited. He also says that swimming in a body of water with unknown depths, a swift current and debris is risky. He added that with cold water temperatures, swimmers could be susceptible to shock and hypothermia.
