Waverly-Shell Rock Senior Abby Caldwell has no shortage of role models --

"Brother's won state titles, dad's coached state titles, my sister."

On top of that -- she spent 3 years as a training partner with 8 time track and cross country champion Anna Holdiman -- who's moved on to Florida State --

"It was nice to have someone show me the way."

But now Caldwell is out of the shadows and has emerged in to the spotlight as one of the runners to watch at this year's state meet -- she just finished competing at the Drake Relays picking up 3 top 7 finishes -- to know surprise to her distance coach Kevin Kuecker --

"She just came out and proved that she belonged against a bunch of 4A runners as well."

As far as the upcoming state meet -- Abby holds the second best class 3-A times in the 800 and 3-thousand meters -- while clocking the fastest 3-A 15-hundred this year -- a fact that can be contributed to a lot of effort --
She has a tremendous work ethic. She's one of the hardest working people that we've had the pleasure of working with, and she's so coachable."

"I've worked hard to try and be the best, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes."

And she's aiming right for the top -- Abby's medalled at the state meet 11 times -- but has yet to reach the pinnacle --

"The goal is always to win a state title. I look up to my brother and sister, and I want to be like them. I want to be a state champ."
