An eastern Iowa woman is heading to Little Rock, Arkansas Friday to help in disaster relief with the American Red Cross. Gail Howatt has been volunteering with the American Red Cross for 9 years. This will be her 6th national deployment to help those affected by a disaster.

"When you see the devastation, especially the tornados, you just can't imagine how the people had gotten through that. You know, how would I do that? If that was my house laying there in timbers, I don't know if i could do it." Howatt said.

Howatt, a nurse, said she is not sure what she will be doing when she arrives in Arkansas, but she believes it will be something health related.

She said she is both excited and nervous to head to Arkansas, but she is looking forward to helping those in need.

"It's a wonderful feeling. It's emotional, it's tiring, but in the end it just warms your heart." Howatt said Thursday.

Howatt isn't the only Iowan helping out. Thursday morning two officers based in the Des Moines office left to help with recovery efforts in Baxter Springs, Kansas.
