Decorah man killed in quarry accident

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) - A Decorah man is dead after an accident Monday morning at the River City Stone rock quarry near Dubuque.

Deputies say 57-year-old Arnold J. Fortman was dumping a load of recycled asphalt from an end-dump trailer attached to a semi-tractor.  They say the truck and trailer rolled after Fortman began moving forward to let the rest of the asphalt fall from the trailer.

Fortman was rescued from the cab of the semi and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be done by the State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny.

The accident remains under investigation.
