CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Dozens of people took part in the "Great Strides" walk for cystic fibrosis in Prairie Lakes Park in Cedar Falls Sunday.

Cystic fibrosis affects nearly 30,000 people, adults and children, nationwide and is a chronic disease that affect the lungs.

Sunday's event raised money for cystic fibrosis research, care for patients, and ultimately a cure.

"Children with cystic fibrosis take 30-50 pills a day and spend hours on treatments just to be able to breathe and we feel that 100% of people with CF deserve a controlled drug or ultimately a cure for this disease," said Claire Scholl, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Iowa Chapter.

Sunday's walk raised $60,000. The Iowa chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hopes to raise $500,00 dollars by the end of the year.
