March of Dimes brings hundreds to the Port of Dubuque

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds walked along the Port of Dubuque Saturday in support of the March of Dimes for the March for Babies. The 4-mile walk raises money to help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, newborn intensive care unit family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies.

This year's Dubuque ambassador family was the Robbins family. Their son, Parker, was born with Hydrocephalus as well as Clubbed Feet.  He spent 90 days in the newborn intensive care unit of the hospital (ICU) while they continued further testing and genetic consults. He was eventually diagnosed with Lissencephaly, a condition known as "smooth brain."

"We don't really want any other families to go through what we had to go through," Joshua Robbins said Saturday.

Officials with the March of Dimes said this year's walk brought in $140,000 in donations.
