Hundreds lend helping hand during Days of Caring in Dubuque

Hundreds of volunteers pitched in Saturday in Dubuque for the 2nd day of the Young Professionals annual Days of Caring event. This is the 8th year for the event.

"We have 1,228 people participating this year," said Lisa Bowers, the Days of Caring event chair.

During the 2-day event, individual volunteers or groups of volunteers from different businesses help non-profit agencies with different projects. This year the event is helping 41 non-profit agencies with 50 different projects in the Dubuque area.

"It shows the community cares about the community they live in. They want to make it beautiful, they want to make is sustainable, and it's really very meaningful," Bowers said Saturday.

James Bemboom is a volunteer through American Trust and Savings Bank. He was one of many volunteers re-painting a mural in the Washington Neighborhood Saturday morning. He said he was excited to give back to the community.

"I'll probably drive down here a little more often knowing that I was part of it. I can go 'Oh! I painted this part, and this part," Bemboom said.
