House rejects Senate's plan to reopen Iowa Juvenile Home

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The state House is rejecting a plan passed by the Senate on Monday to reopen the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo.

The Senate's plan included an amendment to the Health and Human Services' budget that would allot money to the Juvenile Home to re-establish and improve programming at the home. That amendment only passed with Democratic support.

Tuesday, the GOP-lead House rejected the motion on a voice-only vote.

The action by the House means the bill now goes to a conference committee where members of both parties will try and work out differences in the bill.

The Iowa Juvenile Home closed its doors on January 15 by Governor Branstad, after allegations arose that delinquent girls at the home were being mistreated.
