Saunders on Hoiberg for T-Wolves job: "Not the time."

MINNEAPOLIS (KWWL) - Fred Hoiberg will not be the next head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Rick Adelman officially retired as the team's head coach on Monday. Almost immediately, several reports surfaced citing team sources saying Hoiberg was on the team's short list. The anxiety likely felt by Cyclone fans only lasted a very short time.
In a Monday afternoon appearance on the Chad Hartman radio show in the Twin Cities, Timberwolves president Flip Saunders nixed the idea.
"It's not the right opportunity for him to go to the NBA," Saunders told Hartman, "Do I feel someday he's going to be in the NBA? There's no question. He's going to be there. From a timing perspective, no matter where it's at, this is not the time."
Hoiberg recently received a $600,000 raise at Iowa State following the team's Sweet 16 run.
He wasn't the only college coach named as a possible successor to Adelman. Michigan State's Tom Izzo and Florida's Billy Donovan were also mentioned as targets of the Timberwolves search.
