CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Science Center in Cedar Rapids welcomed hundreds of visitors Saturday at its 3rd annual Mini Maker Faire.

The event drew around 40 exhibitors, whose areas of expertise ranged from pottery and wood-carving to 3D printing and robotics. The fair also included educational programs and special guest speakers.

These inventors, entrepreneurs and experts shared their skills at this hands-on event.

Norah Hammond is executive director of the Science Center.

"It's about invention. It's about sharing your passions and your talents," Hammond said, describing the spirit of the Mini Maker Faire. "It's about doing it yourself. It's about entrepreneurship, so it really brings in a wide variety of people and a lot of elements into the fair that, as you can see, are very interesting and fun to engage with."

The floods of 2008 displaced the Cedar Rapids Science Center. After relocating to a temporary home for several years, the center is now in its first year of occupying a bigger, permanent space on Council Street Northeast.
