Group jumps in Mississippi for a cause

Posted: Updated:

A group of 10 people jumped in the Mississippi River Thursday evening together - for a cause. By now you might have heard about the Plunge for Landon. It's a challenge to raise funds for 5-month-old Landon Shaw of Missouri. Landon was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer in February.

The idea of Plunge for Landon is to plunge into cold water and challenge at least three people to do the same. The plunge is also a way to donate funds to the Shaw family.

Josh Jasper, Founder of ResourcesUnite in Dubuque, brought a group of 10 people together Thursday evening to Plunge for Landon.

"This is fun just to be able to jump in a river, a pond, or a lake. When you go and you read the story of baby Landon...This is meaningful stuff, this is not just about making a donation for this child to get through his cancer treatment, but how a community in a very simple way can support someone they don't even know." Jasper said.

Jasper said each of the 10 people the plunged into the cold Mississippi Thursday evening raised funds for Landon. He said in the next 24 hours, each person who pledges a donation towards the Shaw family on the ResourcesUnite Facebook page, the organization will match that donation dollar-for-dollar.
