State House okays plan to increase funds for state universities

Posted: Updated:

The Iowa house has approved a plan on Tuesday night that would raise spending for Iowa's three public universities; however, the University of Iowa wouldn't receive as much as Iowa State University or the University of Northern Iowa.
Under the House approved plan, UNI funding would increase by $7.7 million, ISU funding would go up by $6.9 million and UI would receive an addition $4.5 million.
The plan passed on a party-line vote of 53 to 45 with Democrats thinking that it could result in a tuition increase at Iowa schools.
The House and the Senate are now working to compromise on a budget.
