CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Hundreds of people met at the University of Northern Iowa's Maucker Union Ballroom on Wednesday to celebrate 89 new U.S. citizens.

The naturalization ceremony took place at 2:30 p.m. with U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Jon S. Scoles presiding.

Kate Kneisley sang a rendition of the "National Athem" and "American the Beautiful," and a reception immediately followed after the swearing in ceremony.

The new U.S. citizens hail from more than 30 different countries.

Wednesday's proceeding was made possible by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service and the University of Northern Iowa.
