Iowa Army National Guard gets 2 new helicopters in Waterloo

Posted: Updated:

The Iowa Army National Guard has acquired two new helicopters in Waterloo.

The Army Aviation Support Facility in Waterloo unveiled the UH-72A Lakota helicopters to the public Thursday.

They replace a 1968 Huey OH-58 used in Vietnam.

Both aircraft are new. Lt. Col. Tim Eich, AASF commander, tells the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier that units usually receive older vehicles and equipment because it's procedure.

The aircraft will be used for domestic emergency response and emergency management. It will also be used for transport and search and rescue operations.
