ELDORA (KWWL) - A group of students who ran from the Eldora State Training School on Thursday haven't been returned to the facility.

Several students ran into the woods as they were being transferred from the gym to a cottage at around 7:45 on Thursday morning, according to the Iowa Department of Human Services.

Police were called immediately to help search the students; five of the students who ran were returned to their cottages within an hour.

Three of them haven't yet been located.

“Law enforcement agencies continue to searching for these youth, and we hope for a safe and speedy return," said DHS Director Charles Palmer.

The State Training School is a school for delinquents between the ages of 12 and 18; they're typically placed there for offenses including felonies and aggravated misdemeanors.
