Male with knife prompts school lockdown in Monticello

Posted: Updated:

Monticello Community Schools went on lockdown Thursday afternoon after a report of teenager walking near the school with a knife.

The Monticello Police Department says the principal of Sacred Heart School called police about two males dressed in black walking near the school. Police say one of the males, a 17-year-old, had a large knife in sheath strapped to his belt and, later it was discovered, had a second knife in his possession. Police say the other man with him, 28-year-old Troy LeClere, had no weapons on him. Police say neither man made any threats to students or staff and 17-year-old also did not “brandish” the weapons. The school was put on a lockdown as a precaution, but students were dismissed at 3:00 p.m.

Police say the 17-year-old was taken into custody, and charges are pending for going armed with a dangerous weapon.
