Dubuque considers building overpasses above railroad tracks

Posted: Updated:

Officials in Dubuque are considering building overpasses above railroads to prevent long disruptions, such as earlier this week when mechanical issues caused train cars to block downtown streets for hours.

The Telegraph Herald reports about 30 people attended a public meeting Wednesday to see conceptual drawings of two projects and to learn more about them. They have a combined price tag of $20 million.

Assistant City Engineer Bob says mechanical issues like the one on Monday are not usual, but stoppages are fairly common.

The city will apply for federal funding. If approved, it will still be at least three years before the overpasses are open to traffic.
