2,000 trout to be released for Saturday's kid fishing day

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will release 2,000 trout into the lake at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, on Friday.

Kids will have the opportunity to reel in a few of those fish on Saturday, April 12.

Kids of all ages and with all levels of angler experience are encouraged to stop by the recreation area, located at 579 McCollister Blvd.from 10 a.m. to noon.

The event, is designed to introduce children to the sport of fishing and offer families some quality time in the park.

The event is free, but all participants over the age of 16 must be properly licensed, and fishing licenses and trout stamps must be purchased prior to arrival at the lake, or online.

Children under the age of 16 may fish for the trout if they fish with an adult who has a valid fishing license and trout stamp, but can only catch a limit of five trout.

Children under the age of 16 are eligible for their own five-trout limit if they have their own trout stamp. They are not required to have a fishing license.
