OELWEIN (KWWL) - Organizers hoped to raise thousands of dollars for the Smith family after Amanda Smith-Miller and her two children died in a house fire near Arlington.

They held a benefit on Saturday night featuring vendors, live music and an auction at Luigi's Restaurant and Lounge in Oelwein.

"It's kind of unexplainable how much support you didn't know you had. It's kind of hard to explain," said Melissa Smith.

Organizers said the Smith family has been through a lot since the house fire in January.

"We figured they got enough grief to deal with," said Donna Gloede.

"We just love them. We just want to show them how much we love them," she said.

Gloede said those who couldn't attend Saturday's benefit, but would like to support the family can make donations to the Smith family at Veridian Credit Union.

Organizers said the people who lived in the home had no insurance, so they organized this event to help them. Saturday's event raised $2,100.
