UPDATE: Cedar Rapids Police: Death of Shanna Beyhl is homicide

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Police now say a woman's unattended death at her apartment Friday is a homicide.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department said the suspicious death of Shanna Lee Beyhl, 37, of 228 Jacolyn Drive SW, Apt. 13, in Cedar Rapids, was classified a homicide by the State Medical Examiner.

An autopsy of Beyhl was performed Saturday and the results released to the department Monday.

Police were called to Beyhl's apartment Friday afternoon to conduct a welfare check of her, where they found her body.

John Bean lives in the neighborhood and says it's quite and everyone stays to themselves.

"You just gotta live day by day.You take each day for what it's worth, if you're scared about what's going to happen, then you might as well crawl underneath a rock," said Bean.

While he says this situation is unfortunate, he's not surprised by the violence.

Police are actively investigating the homicide but say they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the public.

It is the seventh homicide in Cedar Rapids so far this year.

No arrests have yet been made in any of the city's homicides, though two of them were officially classified as murder-suicides.
