Waterloo Black Hawks clinch share of Anderson Cup

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The Waterloo Black Hawks will raise at least one banner at the beginning of next season. Waterloo defeated rival Cedar Rapids 5-1 to claim at least a share of the 2014 Anderson Cup title, given to the USHL team with the best regular season record. The Black Hawks, who hold a 2 point lead on Indiana, can capture the cup outright against Cedar Rapids in Saturday's regular season finale.
Waterloo out-shot the Roughriders in the first period, but found themselves trailing 1-0 at the first intermission after Andrew Poturalski scored late in the period.
Peter Krieger opened up the floodgates for the Black Hawks firing a shot just underneath the cross-bar at the 8:10 mark of the second period. Waterloo scored 4 more unanswered goals as Brandon Montour, Patrick Russell, Mark Friedman, and Derek Pratt all found the back of the net en route to the 5-1 rout.
Waterloo's Anderson Cup title is just the second in team history and the first one since the end of the 2007 season.
