Fire destroys home in rural Winthrop

WINTHROP (KWWL) -

A family of five is now without a place to live after a fire in Buchanan County Thursday morning.

Lamont Fire Chief Terry Crow says crews were first called to 1667 Victor Avenue in rural Winthrop around 11:45 a.m.

A fire in an attached garage spread to the home, destroying both.  Everyone home at the time made it out of the building safely.

Crow says someone was doing maintenance work on a car, and that's what started the fire.

Crow said the people who lived at the home are staying with family Thursday evening, until further arrangements are made.
