Downtown Iowa City cooks up for 'Top Chef' competition

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Things were cooking in Downtown Iowa City Monday for the 2014 Top Chef competition.

The event brought several Iowa City Downtown and Northside Marketplace restaurant chefs to prepare some of their signature dishes and desserts, while area mixologists crafted some of the best cocktails out there.

“It's a little bit of fun for us,” said Nick Craig, co-owner of Brix Cheese Shop & Wine Bar. “It breaks routine a little bit, but also supports the community. Shows everybody that we're not just all individual restaurants, we are a part of kind of one organization which is the Iowa City Downtown District.”

Craig handcrafted Pashto Rolls.

Each dish, dessert, and cocktail was judged on presentation, flavor and originality.

Chefs from Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Des Moines were part of the judge’s panel
