Investigators still trying to determine what sparked massive fire in Des Moines

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES (KWWL) - The first day in the investigation into what sparked a massive fire in downtown Des Moines has come to an end.

The fire destroyed the century-old Younkers Building Saturday.

Currently investigators can't rule anything in or out when it comes to determining a cause for the fire.

There are still falling debris and generally unstable conditions near the remains, making it difficult to carry out an effective investigation.

A special team is involved in this investigation. The team includes special agents, chemists, engineers and an accelerant sniffing dog.

It's the first time the team of experts has been called in to help in Des Moines.
