Despite concerns from parents, classes in Cedar Falls will still begin in the middle of August after the Summer break. Superintendent Dr. Andy Pattee says the 2014-2015 school year will start August 14th.
Dr. Pattee says planning a school schedule is always tough, especially in Iowa's summer heat.
"Anytime we look at school in Iowa being in August or one day moved up June because it can be sometimes be more warm of feel more warm in June just because we're not acclimated to the heat yet in June. We have to counter balance that and make those best decisions that you possibly can any time you have a calendar in Iowa," he said.
The majority of Cedar Falls classrooms, kindergarten through ninth grade, will be air conditioned. The high school is not .School
districts need to send a request waiver to the state board of education to be able to start before September 1st.
