CFU and other cable customers to lose Viacom channels

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Channel changes are on the way for some eastern Iowa cable TV customers.

It's due to a programming fight between a coalition of cable companies and Viacom.

The dispute affects the National Cable Television Cooperative and Viacom.

The NCTC represents smaller cable companies like Cedar Falls Utilities, Alpine Communications, Butler-Bremer Communications, and South Slope Communications.

Viacom channels including Comedy Central, MTV, VH-1, BET, TV Land, Spike and Nickelodeon will be removed from those systems April 1.

The cable systems say their contract to carry Viacom channels is expiring and the cost Viacom is asking to keep carrying those channels is too high.

CFU has already announced changes to its lineup.

You can see the changes here.

Mediacom, DirecTV, and Dish Network customers are not affected.

Check with your local cable provider if it affects your service.
