ALLAMAKEE COUNTY (KWWL) -
A cut to a fiber optic line in northeast Iowa is impacting some phone services.
Chris Dahlstrom, the Allamakee County Emergency Management Director, says Centurylink experienced a cut to a fiber optic line and has no estimation as to when it will be fixed.
Dahlstrom says people should be able to make land line to land line calls, except long distance, and should be able to make cell phone to cell phone calls. He says land line to cell or cell to land line calls are impacted.
Dahlstrom adds that 9-1-1 calls are being answered.
The Oelwein Police Department says they are experiencing similar issues. They ask that if you live in Oelwein and have an emergency, call 9-1-1 first. If you get a busy signal, call 319-283-4311.
Centurylink Marketing Development Manager Nancy DeVinay-McNeleybe says the cut, which originated in the Independence area, is affecting people from Oelwein to Calmar.
“CenturyLink’s priorities are customer safety and restoring communications,” DeVinay-McNeley said in a written statement. “We appreciate our customers’ patience while we work to resolve this issue.”
