WATERLOO (KWWL) - Two, new frozen yogurt shops are now open in the Cedar Valley.

Sassy Strawberry Frozen Yogurt just celebrated its grand opening in Waterloo. The self-serve yogurt spot is located off San Marnan Drive, near Target.

"So they would take a cup, and they can choose between a 16 or 24 ounce cup. They choose from 18 different flavors of frozen yogurt, and we always have one sorbet option for people who can't have dairy products," said Sassy Strawberry Owner Ashley Kuper.

Once you've got your yogurt, it's time for toppings. There are 80 to choose from. Everything from candies to cereals to fruit. The cup then gets weighed, and you pay 46 cents per ounce.

This is the third Sassy Strawberry location. The others are in Austin, Minnesota and Burlington, Iowa.

"I love strawberries, and I wanted an "s" to go with the name. So I said sassy strawberry, and my husband said I was kinda sassy so it fit," said Kuper.

Owner Ashley Kuper said she really wants this to be a fun place for people to enjoy some yogurt.

In Cedar Falls, Brick House Frozen Yogurt opened about six months ago. It's located off University Avenue. It's in a brick building, hence the name. It features 21 flavors and 30 toppings. Manager Baileigh O'Brien said one of the most popular options is sea salt caramel pretzel. She hopes the weather gets warmer soon to give more people a reason to enjoy a cool treat.

"I think everyone's ready for the nice weather," said Baileigh O'Brien.

Brick House is also self-serve and costs 43 cents an ounce. The locally owned business is hosting a grand opening celebration on Saturday, April 5th. It will include one hour of free frozen yogurt (that hour yet to be determined) and half off the rest of the day.

Both Brick House in Cedar Falls and Sassy Strawberry in Waterloo offer a healthier alternative when it comes to enjoying a sweet treat. There's non fat, non sugar options. Many flavors are also gluten free.

"There's protein and natural ingredients. If you get the vanilla, there's no sugar added," said O'Brien.

O'Brien said if you haven't given frozen yogurt a try, you're missing out.

Brick House in Cedar Falls and Sassy Strawberry in Waterloo are not affiliated with each other. They're both just new frozen yogurt shops in the area.

Brick House currently opens every day at 12 p.m.

Sassy Strawberry opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.
