Hundreds enjoy inaugural Cedar Valley BaconFest

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - From fresh cuts of hickory smoked bacon, chocolate bourbon bacon cupcakes and caramel bacon popcorn, Cedar Valley BaconFest had just about everything.

"It's bacon. I mean, how can you not like it?" said Terrance Bush of La Porte City.

Bush went to BaconFest with his wife and daughters.

"I don't know of anything that would taste bad with bacon. Bacon by itself is delicious, so I mean you can wrap anything in bacon, and it's delicious," he said.

Bush's 9 year-old daughter's favorite sample was of the bacon fudge.

Kassy Kahler, a sales associate at Popcorn Heaven, said their bacon fudge was popular on Saturday.

"Chocolate and bacon go hand-in-hand," she said.

Meanwhile, Chris Higdon of Johnston said he had his eyes on the maple bacon cupcakes from Scratch Cupcakery as well as bacon crab rangoons.

"A lot of bacon in my belly, that's my plan," he said.

"I just love the taste of it. It's probably not healthy for you, but you've got to have something every now and then," he added.

More than 1,500 bacon-lovers enjoyed live music, a bacon eating contest and an "Oink off."

The event was organized by 3 Cedar Falls-based radio stations.
