CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - A Cedar Falls man faces multiple charges after police officers say he fired a handgun in the air and threatened people.

It happened just after 10 p.m. Friday at 2111 College Street in Cedar Falls.

The Cedar Falls Police Department said 21-year-old Zachary Carney, who lives in an apartment in the building, fired a handgun into the air from a balcony.

Officers said Carney then went back inside an apartment and displayed the weapon in a threatening way to people.

He did have a weapons permit. However, officers smelled alcohol.

Zachary Carney faces several charges including assault by use or display of a weapon, reckless use of a firearm,  and public intoxication. He was taken to the Black Hawk County jail.
