Massive fire at old Younkers building in Des Moines
DES MOINES (WHO) -
Fire crews responded to massive fire at a century old building in Des Moines.
According to our NBC affiliate in Des Moines, WHO, crews were called in just before 1 a.m. Saturday at the old Younkers building in the 700 block Walnut Street in downtown Des Moines.
Shortly after firefighters arrived at the scene, parts of the building started to collapse as large chunks of the building fell to the street.
It's possible several other buildings in the area are also damaged.
No injuries were reported.
Fire crews from Clive, West Des Moines, and Urbandale have been helping the Des Moines Fire Department with operations. Polk County Emergency Management and the Des Moines Police Department are also assisting at the scene.
