Banks take extra security at ATMs

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - "These ATMs have cash, and everybody wants our cash," said Chief Information Officer at Lincoln Savings Bank Jeff Becker.

On a daily basis, Becker said he helps monitor video surveillance at the Lincoln Savings Bank locations.

"There's a higher level of security when you're actually inside of our branches using the ATM," he said.

But for people who use the drive-up ATM, Becker recommends keeping windows rolled up and the doors locked.

"The best practice would be to make the transaction as quickly as possible, and then move onward," he said.

According to Becker, the ATMs are a "vulnerable" area for crimes. Although he said the ATMs at Lincoln Savings Bank have never been robbed.

"It really can happen anywhere. We work with police often," he said.

Becker said if a customer notices anything out of the ordinary to contact the bank or police immediately.
