Deputies ask for help in string of St. Catherine burglaries

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) - The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office is investigating a string of daytime home burglaries in the St. Catherine area, off U.S. Highway 52 in Dubuque County.

Capt. Bob Lynn said the burglaries have happened during the work week, when the people who live in the homes are not there, generally between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

"The burglaries in the St. Catherine area started in the summer of 2013. Since then we have had 10 reported daytime burglaries. They kind of died down during the winter, but just a couple of weeks ago we had another one." Lynn said.

Troy Steffen has lived in the St. Catherine area for 10 years. He said he is on the look out for any suspicious activities in the area.

"We tend to lock our doors a lot more," Steffen said Friday, "We make sure our windows are locked. We also have a good situation [relationship] with our neighbors, we all watch each others houses."

Lynn asks anybody who notices any suspicious vehicles or people to contact the Dubuque County Dispatch Center at 563-589-4415.

People can also contact the Dubuque/Jo Daviess Crime Stoppers at 1-800-747-0117 or 563-588-0714. People who call Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous. Information leading to an arrest can result in a reward for the caller of up to $1,000.

A gloomy and rainy afternoon didn't stop people from making it out early to the campgrounds Friday. By the afternoon, Scales Pointe Campground and Marina in North Liberty, was full of RVs, tents, and houseboats ready to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. "We don't worry about the weather. We just put a tent up, put a poncho on, and drink in the rain," Mike Kirk said. Kirk said he's been camping at the same spot for five years now and that it's the best place to be. ...More >>
