Iowa State has a lot to deal with on top of playing the UConn Huskies. There's the mystique of playing here in Madison Square Garden, and all these seats while empty right now, the rumor is UConn fans have bought up about 60% percent of them, virtually turning this in to a road game.
Naz Long/Iowa State Sophomore Guard
"It's going to be great. I feel like road games are awesome. The momentum in the gym when you're able to silence the crowd here and there, it just makes the atmosphere great."
And another great atmosphere is almost a certainty -- with a a UConn team that's won 11 of their last 13 -- and Iowa State -- winners of 6 in a row ready to Duke it out --
Fred Hoiberg/Iowa State Head Coach
"This game means a lot. I know they're going to have a pro-UConn crowd out there. We've just got to go out, be mentally tough and hopefully give ourselves a chance."
And of course Iowa State is still without Georges Niang, he did squeeze off a few shots during the shootaround, but nothing's changed, his season is still over, and guys like Dustin Hogue need to once again fill the void.
Dustin Hogue/Iowa State Junior Forward
"I understand that me, Naz, and Monte are going to have to have a bigger role offensively to try to make up for what Georges brings to this team. It's not so much about what I've been doing. I'm going to have to step up offensively if we're going to have a chance to win this game."
Melvin Ejim/Iowa State Senior Forward
"I think it's a lot better. We've been able to take out some wrinkles, get more on the same page. Get a lot of guys in doing different things, but it's been going well. I think it's been going better, so we've got to go out, play our game, and stick to the game plan."
