Crews in Marion fight two fires at neighboring buildings

Crews in Marion fought two separate fires at neighboring buildings on Thursday.
Fire crews were called to 895 S. 11th st. on a report that smoke was showing from Unit #6 at the building; they arrived at the scene at 12:40 p.m. and found smoke in the wall that connected to Unit #5.
Firefighters extinguished the fire between the two apartments; that's when a man from the neighboring building came to inform them that there was smoke coming from his apartment as well.
Crews say this caused confusion and that they believed that he was talking about the fire that had already been extinguished; the man then pointed to the apartment next door.
He lived at 901 S. 11th st in Unit #12.
Crews evacuated that building, and the fire was eventually put out.
Firefighters say the fire between Unit’s #5 and #6 was caused by the heat from a soldering gun used earlier in the day by plumbers, and the fire in the next building in Unit #12 was started by a stove top being left on.

The first building is managed by Eagle Property Management and the second by High Property Management.
