Cedar Valley Champions: CFU's Vijay Suravarapu

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Vijay Suravarapu never thought he would end up in the Cedar Valley -- but he ended up at Cedar Falls Utilities.

"This was the only position that I applied (for) in Iowa," said Suravarapu.

Suravarapu earned his undergraduate degree in India, came to the U.S. and earned his master's degree in computer science at North Dakota State University.

When he was hired by CFU, it was a brand-new position and at a time when the company wanted to reach out to customers.

"One of my projects was one-time bill pay, which allows customers to pay their bills online," said Suravarapu. "This was something we did not have before. I had experience with developing web applications, and CFU provided me with all the requirements that I needed."

For CFU, Suravarapu was exactly who they needed for the position -- and now, they are sponsoring him to earn permanent residency.

"We value each other's differences, recognizing that we're all unique," said Lori Hoffmann, employee training and communications specialist. "Sometimes we might look the same, but (we're) innately different."
